Item The Relationship between Indirect Aggression, Appearance Schemas, and Self-esteem among University Women in Lebanon(2014) Matar, SallyThe main aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between indirect aggression, appearance schemas and self-esteem among university women in Lebanon. Participants were 130 female university women in Lebanon aged between 18 and 34 years who completed the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Appearance Schema Inventory-Revised, the Indirect Aggression Scale-Aggressor Version and a demographic survey. A significant positive relationship was found between self-esteem and indirect aggressive behaviours. Another significant positive relationship was found between indirect aggression and appearance schemas, however no relationship was found between self-esteem and appearance schemas. Further analysis concluded a significant negative correlation between appearance schemas and age, and a significant positive relationship between appearance schemas and “time needed to get ready.” The results of this study contribute to a new understanding of when women use indirect aggression in their social groups, and how it is linked to positive qualities such as popularity and social status.
