Item The Mediating Effect of Coping on the Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Compassion Fatigue among Humanitarian Aid Workers in Lebanon(2023) Sassouh, Nirmeen S.This Master's thesis aims to study the mediating effect of coping on the relationship between emotional intelligence and compassion fatigue. To achieve this goal, a quantitative research approach was used. The study collected data through a self-report online survey that captured the emotional intelligence scale, the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) scale and the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL). The data were analyzed using SPSS namely correlation, regression and mediation analyses. The main findings indicate that there is a significant inverse relationship between emotional intelligence and compassion fatigue. Moreover, problem-focused coping significantly mediated the relationship between emotional intelligence and compassion fatigue but the same was not for avoidance and emotion focused coping. These findings suggest that emotional intelligence is crucial in preventing compassion fatigue among humanitarian workers. Overall, the study provides insights into on the importance for humanitarian relief workers to recognize and address any mental health burdens that may impact their work and quality of life. These findings have implications for organizations and clinical settings. The study recommends that future research sheds the light on this topic while accounting for the current limitations.
