Abstract
The Armenian massacres, perpetrated in 1915 by the Turks, constituted only part of the pan-Turanian scheme followed up by the Young Turks. World War I provided a splendid opportunity for the allies of Germany, the Turks, to annihilate the Armenians and resolve the Armenian Question.
Turkish, Armenian and other documents and studies evidence the fact that the leaders of the Young Turks had planned the massacres and the forced deportations with fastidious care and had recruited, in Constantinople and other important centers of Western Armenia, the needed manpower for their dark designs. A chronological study also reveals the double-faced diplomatic moves of the Young Turks: they reassured, on the one hand, that Armenians were committed to the utmost care of the Turkish government, and, on the other, relentlessly massacred and deported the Armenians, thus vacating Western Armenia of its native people.
