Abstract
The paper focuses on two burial sites in the vicinity of lake Sevan which date back to the iron age and specifically to the 12/11th-9th centuries BC.
The first site was first excavated between 1906 and 1908 and again between 1987 and 1992, while the second was excavated between 1999 and 2002.
The aim of the authors is to examine the similarities and differences between the members of these group burials and interpret their kinship through measuring the details of each skeleton.
The authors describe the area, the numbers in the cemeteries and those buried. They also detail the size and facial specifics of each skeleton (more than 39) as well as the position and distance at which each was buried in relation to the main corpse.
After a detailed examination to the authors concluded that in both these burial sites, due to the death of the chief of the group, a number of his kin (both male and female and of different ages) were killed and buried close to his corpse.
Basing their conclusions on the above-mentioned facts, the authors make certain deductions about the burial habits and rituals as well as the social hierarchy and relations that prevailed within the group.
