| dc.description.abstract | The paper examines the data on the existence of female Armenian Church convents in the Holy Land. Such data are very scarce. The earliest and perhaps the most valuable source is the list concerning the Armenian monasteries of Jerusalem prepared by the 7th century priest Anastas. This list is found in a manuscript dating back to the 16th-17th centuries. After examining all available and indirect data and sources, the author concludes that the existing information cannot confirm (or negate) the presence of female Armenian convents in the Holy Land and that further evidence is needed to clarify this unresolved issue. | |
