| dc.description.abstract | The paper highlights an unpublished Persian document referring to the life of Khachatur Abovian, the founder of modern Armenian literature and pedagogy. The document is a deed of purchase which states that Abovyan bought an estate with a house, a garden and some supplementary constructions in 1845 in the town of Yerevan, in the neighborhood of the royal school, where he taught. Notwithstanding the fact that the deed was drawn up in 1845, Abovyan held possession of the estate not before 1847, as he was not in high favor with the local Russian authorities, who prolonged the process of registration for two years. The document may shed further light on Abovian's circumstances for biographers investigating his disappearance and particularly his death. | |
