dc.description.abstract | After the heavy defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, the Republic created by Mustafa Kemal, by virtue of diplomacy and complicity with Great Powers, succeeds to subjugate Western Armenia and Kurdistan. Mustafa Kemal, once established in rule, persists in his policy of persecuting Armenians, and, under the pretext of alleged Armeno-Kurdish cooperation, fulfills, in fact, the genocide perpetrated by the Young Turks. During the years 1929-1930, Republican Turkey exiles from 30 to 40 thousand Armenians from Diarbekir, Kharpert, Balou, Merdin, and various parts of Western Armenia to Syria. Armenians are forced to relinquish their ancestral lands, and their passports were stamped «Forbidden to reenter Turkey». Great Powers, in view of such compulsory emigration, never intervene, forfear their diplomatic relations with Turkey may be impaired. Reference in foreign press to the overt criminality is minimal. | |
