dc.description.abstractOn August 10, 1920, by the Treaty of Sèvres, the Allied Nations oblige the Ottoman Empire to return a good part of the Armenian territories to the Armenians. But the treaty remains on paper only, while the Milly Armies of Turkey rush upon the Republic of Armenia, whose government signs the Treaty of Alexandrapole with Turkey, yielding new territories to her. While the Allied Nations were following the course of the Armenian Question with indifference, Soviet Russia had adopted the policy of winning over the Kemalists, pushing the Armenian Question to a secondary plan. The leaders of Kemalist Turkey having adopted a bifarous policy, were dealing with the Allied Nations and Soviet Russia at the same time, pursuing their own gains on both fronts. The London Conference began on February 21, 1921. The Armenians joined the conference on February 26, with two separate delegations, led by Boghos Nubar Pasha and Avedis Aharonian. The positions and demands presented by the Armenian delegations seemed contradictory. The Turks refused the Armenian demands, while the Allied Nations with their separate agreements with Turkey were trying to gain her over to their side. On March 1921, a Russo-Turk conference was held in Moscow, to which the Armenians were refused attendance because of Turkish opposition. The resulting Russo-Turk Treaty of Moscow automatically annulled the Treaty of Alexandrapole. On April 2, 1921, upon the reestablishment of the Soviet regime in Armenia, the Soviets demanded the evacuation of the Turks from the newly occupied territories in Armenia. On April 22, 1921, Turkish armies retreated from Alexandrapole, which was then annexed to Soviet Armenia.
