Abstract
Vahe-Vahian's (1908-1998) poetry was strongly influenced by Vahan Tekeyan (1878-1945). The two poets had established a long standing literary and ideological friendship that lasted for some eleven years. The friendship had started with Vahian, who had taken the initiative to send Tekeyan his first, newly published poetry book, Arev-Antsrev (Sun-rain, 1933) in June
In 1983, Prof. Sandjian published the letters of Tekeyan. There are fifteen letters sent from Tekeyan to Vahian, which are dated between April 28, 1933 and December 15, 1944.
Here, the author, Vache Ghazarian, presents 13 letters of Vahian sent to Tekeyan, which are dated between August 14, 1934 and March 11, 1945.
Unfortunately, both sets of letters do not constitute the entirety of the correspondence that went on between the two poets. At least 5 letters are missing. The letters of Vahian complement whatever had been published in Sandjian's book.
They are useful in revealing the atmosphere of the time, and the difficulties young Armenian authors faced at the inception of their literary careers. Besides, the letters give an insight into the inner feelings and thoughts of Vahian. Furthermore, they elucidate the early years of Vahian's teaching career and his involvement in the pro-Soviet Armenia organization called, Hayasdani Paregamneru Miyutioun (Union of Armenia's Friends), and its first circular in Nicosia, back in September 28, 1944.
