dc.description.abstractIn previous volumes of the Haigazian Armenological Review (Volumes 13 to 18), the author has already put in the limelight sets of Armenian words and explained their meanings, their connotation and their nuances in expressions. In this article the author highlights a number of Armenian words related to the Armenian Genocide. These are: 1. Aksor/Aksorel – exile, to exile. 2. Antjtel – to detach the body from the head. 3. Bnadjendjum – to eliminate from its roots. 4. Yeghern/yeghernagan – agony, anguish, lament/lametable, song of mourning, catastrophe, crime. 5. Kotoratz/kotor – massacre, shred, crumble. 6. Nakhtjir – prey, the massacre of animals while hunting. 7. Shkotak – to cut into pieces the body of a guilty person, to exile to a distant country. 8. Djard/djardel – slaughter, total annihilation. 9. Span/spand/spananel – to throw down, to topple, to kill. 10. Vtarandi/vtarel/otarel – to alienate, exile someone from his/her native country. 11. Tseghaspanutyun/tsegh – killing of a race, race. The author examines the above-mentioned words, examines their roots, checks whether they have been borrowed from other languages, and analyses the evolution of their meaning, and lists words constructed from them.
