The Armenian coppersmiths’ trade has started to grow in the cities of Armenia from 9th century on. Armenian coppersmiths had their patronizing saints, their special work-shop quarters in the cities, their syndicates, even their own flags. The Armenian coppers with their inscriptions and embroideries express one of the best features of Armenian art, and are rare documents of Armenian history and culture. The article deals with Armenian copper of 1600-1915, which have reached us mostly from the cities of Armenia and Cilicia.
