| dc.description.abstract | The architectural school of Shirak (Ani-Shirak), with its talented architects, master builders and khachkar masters, occupies an outstanding place in the history of medieval Armenian Church architecture. As of 1991, with the proclamation of independence in the Republic of Armenia, Armenian Church architecture has experienced a revival and a new period of growth. Modern Armenian architects and master builders, have applied new ideas, solutions and technologies to the newly built churches in line with the legacy of the local school of Medieval Armenian Church architecture. The paper focuses on the newly built churches and chapels of the Shirak region of the Republic of Armenia. It details the architectural forms and characteristics of each construction and highlights their traditional elements. | |
