| dc.description.abstract | This is the second installment of an all-inclusive study pertaining to the manifestation of the Armenians of Constantinople on the 30 September 1895, to present a petition and thereby ask the Sublime Porte to ameliorate the lot of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in general, and in the sis Armenian provinces of Western Armenia in particular. The section presented here deals only with the first day of the troubles and clashes between the Ottoman regular and irregular forces and the softas on the one side, and the Armenian demonstrators on the other, their repurcussions on various fronts, the several exports of the English, French, American and German ambassadors in Constantinople, the official reports of the Ottoman authorities, the declarations made by the Sublime Porte, and a number of sundry telegrams, western and Armenian newspaper reports and articles, a number of memoires of both foreign and contemporary individuals and participants to the events, and a multitude of forgeries of the modern Turkish historiography. Moreover, it tells at length the blood-soaked story of the massacres which occurred in the different quarters, squares and regions of the Ottoman capital. Quite sure, the story of the Armenian manifestation does not come to an end with what is presented here.
