Պատմական դէմքերը Կոստան Զարեանի «Նաւը լերան վրայ» վէպում

Abstract
Although the renowned Armenian author Kostan Zarian has clearly stated that his masterpiece, The Ship on the Mountain (published in 1943 in Boston, revised version published in 1963 in Yerevan), is not a historical novel, it is based on certain historical characters, facts and details. Against the backdrop of the historical period of 1918–1921, when the Republic of Armenia was proclaimed, the author unfolds the story of two Armenians who contribute to the reconstruction of their fatherland through realizing their separate marine projects on Lake Sevan. This article endeavors to trace the historical figures and prototypes, facts and details reflected in this novel. Some of them are the nationalist Catholicos, Mekertich Kherimian; the futurist poet, Kara Dervish; the naval captain Michael Tumanian, captain of the ship “Ashot Yerkat”, which he brings from Batum to Lake Sevan; and Captain Ara Herian, the main character of the novel, who builds a ship on Lake Sevan.
