| dc.description.abstract | The paper focuses on utensils used for cooking and eating in the Syunik region in southern Armenia. It notes that these utensils play an important role in the organization of everyday life. The paper argues that the variety and diversity of the utensils, typically in the 19th-20th centuries, prove their importance. Furthermore, it contends that due to the importance of some of the utensils, society has shaped an attitude towards them which, in time, has been transformed into a ritual and has even been characterized as having sacred significance, an attitude which can still be noticed today. The author notes that some types of these household utensils have been modernized and haven been used in the restaurant business since the 1950s. The author argues that giving them a new look and using them in restaurants is meant to add an atmosphere and a mood while serving traditional dishes. Besides, some sorts of utensils have been redesigned and displayed in souvenir shops, to be used as decorations in houses. | |
