| dc.description.abstract | The author sheds light on the caricatures of the famous 20th Century Armenian famous painter Yervand Kochar (1899–1978). Until now these caricatures have been overlooked in Kochar’s creative artwork. Kochar drew caricatures mainly in France during his stay in Paris from 1925–1935. His caricatures have been published in the Kavrash satirical paper and other periodicals, alongside the caricatures of Carzou (1907–2000). In fact, this bulk of Kochar’s caricatures, some 30 drawings in total, have been published in Kavrash. The caricatures touch on several areas, including lifestyle, the dire conditions of young Armenian intellectuals, and portraits of Armenian authors and painters. | |
