| dc.description.abstract | One of the last studies of the late Berj M. Garabedian, the article presents the study of a rare item which was a novelty in the educational system of the Armenian Antep, Cilicia, in the second half of the nineteenth century. Garabedian does minutely study the moulding of the various component parts of the divid, its decorative engravings, the sundry Armenian inscriptions, the different seals of the master moulders and workers in bronze and copper, and the question of dates and names in monogramic forms. Moreover, Garabedian gives the etymology of the term divid and makes it sure that a divid was not just a simple student inkpot, but rather a combination of an inkpot, an elongated pentray and a pen of reed. The study ends with a minute description of some forty divids from Garabedian's personal collection of Armenian copper and bronze, as well as from those of Vahé Setian and Giragos Mekhjian of Beirut. | |
