| dc.description.abstract | The metamorphosis of the Armenian Populist party started with the coming forth of the Russian Popular Freedom Party, better known as the Kadet and founded in Moscow on 18 October 1905, The Armenian Populist movement started in the January of 1906 as a Radical Armenian Faction of the Constitutional Democratic Party, but as many other political parties in the Russian Empire, and specially in the Caucasus, it came to an end with the failure of the Russian Revolution of 1905-1907 The Constitutional Democratic Party was once more revived in the March-May period of 1917 just after the February Revolution got victorious. The next few months witnessed a radical change in the party platform from the Russian Kadet context to a purely Armenian democratic character. Then it changed its seat from Tbilissi and settled in Yerevan, the capital of the new independent Armenia. The next two years saw the growth of the party and its hearty participation in the activities of the Armenian parliamentary government. But the Armeno-Turkish war of 1920 toppled down every thing. The Armenian Populist Party came to end with all the other political factions and parties in the Republic of Armenia when the country was declared a soviet republic and all political activity was banned. Yet the ramifi-cations of the party in the Armenian Diaspora came to found the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party as the Party’s offshoot. After a short introductory note, the article ends with two statutes – one that of 27 September 1917 and the other, that of 15 September 1919 – which show the metamorphosis of this Armenian Political Party. | |
