| dc.description.abstract | The Meshak newspaper published in Tbilisi printed diverse articles with valuable information not only about Armenia, but also about public life in neighboring countries. Among these articles, those of the renowned Iranian-Armenian novelist, publicist, and ethnographer Raffi (Hakob Melik-Hakobyan, 1835-1888) stand out primarily for the accuracy of the information they contain, the author's meticulousness towards numerical data, and in some cases his deep historical and political analyses. This paper tries to classify, compare and analyze Raffi's historiographical and ethnographic articles published in Meshak, which refer to the Armenian community of Iran. These articles focus on Armenian-Assyrian relations in the Parskahayk region, the diverse social classes of the local Armenians, and the educational and cultural activities of foreign missionaries, as well as the consequences of famine and epidemics that oftentimes struck Iran. | |
