Տիգրան Դ.ի եւ Երատոյի արիւնակցական կապերու հարցին շուրջ

Abstract
The inscriptions of two Artaxiad copper coins (one in the Paris Museum, and the second in the Hunterian Museum of Glasgow University) which belong to Tigranes IV and Erato (2 B. C. - A. D. 1) read as follows: «Erato Tigranes' sister», and «Sister of Tigranes». The Roman historian Tacitus is the sole second source which mentions the blood relation of Tigranes IV and Erato. Following the above mentioned facts, modern Armenian historians have suggested that the co-rulers of the Artaxiad throne, Tigranes IV and Erato, are blood relatives (brother and sister) as well as husband and wife. The author of the article is suspicious of this conclusion and argues that in the Artaxiad dynasty and palace, where Hellenistic and Roman education and traditions were so dominant, such a marriage could hardly be possible. The author suggests that Erato was a member of a strong but politically neutral Armenian noble family, and that the Tigranes IV-Erato coins were struck according to the Selucid tradition, where the queen preferred to call herself «king's sister», which was thought to be a higher title than «queen».
