Abstract
Research on Armenian mythology, and specifically on the legend of Hayk and Bel, which sheds light on the lineage of Armenians, is largely based on Movses Khorenatsi’s (5ᵗʰ century) book of the history of the Armenians, an old and trustworthy source. In his book Interpretation of Genesis Yeghishe (5ᵗʰ century) does not engage in the history of Armenian ancestry. Nonetheless, sometimes, when the biblical story and Armenian legend overlap, Yeghishe writes down details which are found in no other Armenian manuscripts.
By quoting the passages which relate to the story of Hayk and Bel and analyzing them, the author tries to highlight aspects and details of ancestral Armenian lineage.
