Abstract
The first Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Hovhannes Kajaznuni, was a highly capable politician, and with his restrained, moderate and pragmatic policies he managed to lift the nascent Armenian Republic out of chaos. That is why his services were of an undeniable importance to the formation of the Republic of Armenia. However, the country's socioeconomic situation, the terrible winter in 1918-1919, the Georgian-Armenian war and the blockade caused by it negatively affected Kajaznuni's position and reputation. This became an excuse to remove him from his post as the government's Chief Executive and send him to Europe and North America to seek economic aid for Armenia. In Europe and the United States, among state politicians and Armenian communities, Kajaznuni passionately campaigned for the recognition of the Armenian Cause and the Republic of Armenia. Nevertheless, he failed to sign a serious agreement with the United States for a loan to Armenia. The delegation of the Republic of Armenia left the United States without tangible results, but Kajaznuni's appeals and petitions had a positive impact on speeding up the process of sending aid from the USA to the starving Armenian population. The main reasons for the mission's failure were in-party electoral rivalries in the United States and the disagreements and mutual mistrust between the two Armenian delegations visiting the Diaspora.
