Abstract
This article describes some of the wedding rituals of the interethnic groups (Syrian, Armenians, Persian Armenians, Armenians from Vayk, Jajur, Mush, Sasoun...) living in the village of Arax in Armavir District. These rituals existed till the 1980s and were as follows - Syrian Armenians used henna, while Persian Armenians cut up a sugar loaf and gave it to people at the engagement. This review is also about those having "house saints" and "naturally gifted ones" (healers, those who cure one's fear by exorcism, etc.) and about popular knowledge and irrational treatment. The ethnographic review shows we may say that Arax, with its multilayered population and rich cultural values, is a unique field of research for ethnographers.
