Abstract
Due to the war in Syria, large numbers of its centuries-old Syrian-Armenian minority have been scattered throughout the world. Some took refuge in Lebanon, Jordan, and the Republic of Armenia, while others migrated to the US, Canada, Australia and European countries.
The paper highlights the attitude and migratory trends of the Syrian-Armenian community in the Republic of Armenia. Basing her analysis on data collected from two extensive surveys, conducted in 2014 and 2016/7, and field studies, the author examines various issues related to the integration of the Syrian-Armenian migrants in Armenia, issues like identity, fatherland, kinship, etc. Concurrently the author discusses the reasons behind their different decisions to stay or leave the country and notes that unemployment, accommodation and difficulties in coping with new conditions are among the main causes of dissatisfaction.
