Abstract
Certain relationships and happenings between humankind and its milieu (such as geography and nature) have been interpreted by men as expressions of Gods, legendary animals, formidable mysteries and powers of evil and good. During millennia these primitive understandings have developed into beliefs and legends.
However, due to humankind's scientific and cultural progress these beliefs have disappeared from daily usage, though their remnants have survived in languages and colloquial expressions.
The paper unearths these remnants which have been preserved in the Armenian language and dialects, as well as in popular sayings and beliefs. The author groups these traces into different categories of mythology, legendary locations and constructions, animals and birds, good and evil spirits.
