Abstract
Taking the 13th century inscription on the southern wall of Ayrivank Monastery as a reference, the author focuses on the military activities of Ivane Zakaryan I, who captured the Kaya(n) and Kayston fortresses in the valley of the Aghstev River. The paper details the history of these two fortresses and the changes of ownership they went through during the 12th-13th centuries.
