Abstract
The paper describes a set of Armenian wedding ceremonies (or remnants of them) that no longer exist and are almost unknown to the younger generation. The author draws parallels between the wedding ceremonies of the Armenians, Assyrians, and Yezidis living in Armenia to understand how natives have preserved their folkloric traditions.
The paper notes that the current range of weeding procedural ceremonies has been significantly reduced. Only the engagement and wedding ceremonies have been preserved. Besides, often times foreign rites are adopted and have become a trend.
The author argues that it is necessary to revive interesting and notable traditional rites, which are partly preserved in the Armenian wedding ritual. Reviving such traditions would put the participant in connection with their origins. The author argues that reviving these traditions by enriching them with a contemporary twist or a new approach would help the individual avoid rituals that are incompatible with the nature and traditions of the Armenian nation.
