Գրականագիտական եզրի սահմանները (նորավէպի տեսութեան պատմութիւնից)

Abstract
One of the major problems in the intellectual study of the modern Armenian literary history has been that of a term for "short-story", in the nineteenth century the French word for it, the nouvelle, was directly translated into Armenian by some Armenian writers of Constantinople. The term thus brought forth soon turned to be a bone of contention and a number of new terms, ancient and modern, came into being. Of these mention has to be made of vipak, vepik, patoum, patmevatzk, zerouyts, dervak, manravep and noravep. After being in circulation side by side, the noravep las taken root in. the field due to its conceptual and intellectual content. But the victory of the term noravep was not an easy one. The struggle for its right to existence started with the publication of a letter in Burakn in 1901 by Vivian Hopkins, a foreign resident in Constantinople. Soon a lengthy literary dispute began among the Armenian prose writers, poets, grammarians, linguists, literary critics, editors and editors-in-chief, with some creative enthusiasm, in search of the intellectual and philosophical core of a final term for the "short story". Since then, the question has come to the foreground and has been a subject of study. Now a settled problem, the term noravep has its place in the conceptual, philosophical and intellectual terminology of the Armenian literature. The author of the article discusses at length the coming up and the evaluation of the term with the help of western, Soviet and Armenian source material to reveal the inner intellectual and conceptual content the term noravep bears and to conclude that the characteristics of the term are laconism, compactness, individuality, internal harmony and the appeal which it bears towards the reader and even style and forms of expression.
