Abstract
Telgadintsi (Hovhannes Haroutiunian), a victim of the Armenian Genocide, was a renowned author and education who dedicated his life to the upbringing of the younger generation in the province of Kharpert. Telgadintsi was instrumental in campaigning for and drawing attention to the provinces (i. e. Western Armenia, the Armenian Vilayets in Ottoman, Turkey) and advocating allocation of resources to the Armenian hinterland. His essays, letters and short stories published in the Armenian newspapers of the time had the above-mentioned objective.
However, his life was cut short by the Genocide before he could publish anything but a play in a separate book.
The paper narrates how a number of his students took the initiative to collect and publish his dispersed literary works in a single volume. Fr. Arsen Ghazigian of the Mekhitarist congregation in Venice became their best collaborator as they asked him to go through a number of Armenian newspapers that had published Telgadintsi's works, find these articles, copy and send them for publication.
The 23 letters published in this paper outline the processes of communication between the students and Fr. Ghazigian, the gathering of the dispersed material and the eventual publication.
The paper argues though the volume published does not include all Telgadintsi's literary works, nevertheless, their initiative brought about the revival of Telgadinsti as a literary figure and one of the founders of Armenian rural literature.
