dc.description.abstractThe periodical Al-Musheer, issued in Egypt by young Turkish emigrants, highlighted the policy of both the Ottoman Empire and the European Powers concerning the Armenian question through articles and caricatures. Al-Musheer presented caricatures based on historical facts. Specifically the paper underlined: 1. The obstructive role of the Ottoman Empire with regard to the development of the civilized societies within the empire, 2. The political situation of the Ottoman Empire at the close of the 19ᵗʰ century, exposing both the internal and external factors which were leading the empire to its destruction; 3. The Armenian Question and the issue of applying reforms in Western Armenia, and the ongoing bargains between the European Powers and Ottoman Empire; 4. The policy of the European Powers vis-à-vis the Ottoman Empire in getting concessions by instigating/promoting the Armenian Question; 5. The mass killings of Armenians in Western Armenia by the orders of the Sultan Abdul Hamid.
