Abstract
The author sheds light on a long-standing uncertainty pertaining to the first translation and publication of Movses Khorénatsi's History of the Armenians and rectifies a number of misconceptions regarding the details of this translation and ita publication.
Through solid proofs, the author concludes that:
a) The first Latin translation of Khorentsi's History was done by a Dominican monk, Joannes Bartholomeus, and not by the Swede Henric Brenner (1669-1732).
b) Brenner assisted in Bartholomeus' work, all the annotations of the translation are his
c) The translation finished in Isfahan in 1699.
d) While in a Russian prison, Brenner did not work on Khorenatsi's History, Bartholomeus was never his cell-mate in prison.
e) Dr. Eric Benzel, the chief librarian of Uppsala University, did not participate in the translation effort, except for suggesting its publication
f) This Latin edition is not a complete translation of the whole History, but an abridged version of Books I & II of the History.
g) It was published in 1723 and not in 1733.
