| dc.description.abstract | "Basing his conclusion on extensive archival research in the national libraries of Armenia, France, Germany and Russia, the author finds, that the first French map of the Caucasus, titled "Turcomanie, Georgie, Commanie", was printed in 1653. The paper examines the author of this map, the French cartographer, geographer and statesman Sanson Nicholas (1600-67), and proposes a number of the reasons why cartographic attention was paid to the Caucasus in the 17th century. | |
