The creative collaboration of Komitas and the famous ethnographer and folklorist Tigran Chituni was quite efficient. Already at their first meeting, in just two evenings, Komitas notated from Chitunis performances 50 melodies of Van folk songs, the words of which the latter had written down; however, having no musical education, he could not record their melodies. Their second meeting took place only years later, after the outbreak of the First World War, in December 1914 in Constantinople, when, collaborating for a whole month, they recorded many of Van songs, including melodies of children's ethnic songs. Komitas processed and performed some of the best songs of Van-Vaspurakan many times in his many concerts, presenting them as valuable patterns of Armenian folklore.
