Abstract
Based on the data collected from a large collection of coffee grinders, oral history and communication with the son of Kevork Froundjian, one of the founders of the industry in Beirut in the 1940s, the paper reconstructs the history of the development of the manual coffee grinding machine industry in Beirut and its market. The paper details the specifications of the machine and its various sizes, provides names of those who worked in the field and the dates of the rise and fall of the industry, as well as describing the workshop of Kevork Froundjian, its production line and items and the significant role the Froundjian brothers played in the development of the industry in Lebanon. The paper concludes that the industry was introduced to Lebanon by Armenian refugees and that native Lebanese industrialists were not involved in this sphere.
