Abstract
The study is an attempt at reconstructing the settlement of Armenians in Buenos Aires during the 1910s, when the community was actually taking shape. The bulky life process of the immigrants forced them to create institutions which would help in their adjustment to the new country and also be helpful to wider compatriot purposes.
By 1914, the number of Armenians in Buenos Aires was estimated at 2,000 souls. This population was due to economic and political motives, as well as the fall of the Armenian-populated provinces of the Ottoman Empire.
Some 150 Armenians also volunteered for the French army and later for the Armenian army. In 1917, the candidatures of the Armenian National Union of America provided motivation for the reunification of the fledgling Republic of Armenia. Another quarter between partisans and non-partisan members of the Armenian National Union ended with the collapse of this organization by the end of 1920, which opened a new page in the organization of the community.
